Alvin D’Lottery is the target sim for this challenge.
I wanted an easy challenge for a change that hopefully wouldn’t take too long. I finished this challenge in about 9 sim days and 2 sittings of real time play. It was fun trying to figure out quick ways to make a lot of money.
I was worried in the beginning because Alvin didn’t seem to be getting any money related memories – no Earned some money, no §1 000 earned. But then he got the §5 000 memory and I knew it was gonna be ok.
So… making money – Ironically I was reading book by Terry Pratchett by that very title while playing this challenge. If you want to play some serious sims2, remember to bring an enthralling book too.
I tried 5 ways to make money fast:
- Get a good paying job and hope to get lucky with chance cards.
- Dig for treasure and sell dug up booty
- Use Lifetime rewards to level up to give financial consulting
- Start a home business as a venue with Electrono-Ticket machine for a passive income
- Real Estate
Alvin’s Life Time Want (LTW) was to become a criminal mastermind, but when I started playing he wanted a career in Law or Architecture. He got a job in Law field. I really wanted him to get a job in the military, but it never came up in the newspaper, nor on the computer – boy, was I glad that Mr. Humble delivers those pc’s, now even poor sims can have internet. Eventually he got a good’ish job in the Police/Security field earning about §522 a working day. But this wasn’t bringing money in fast enough.
He managed to dig up the treasure chest worth §5 000, but digging took too much time, and he’s hygiene and environment scores kept dropping fast.
Being a financial consultant also took up a lot of his time and didn’t pay so much. But on the plus side, he got a daily dividend for doing nothing anyway.
I used the UnlockCareerRewards cheat and set up the lot with the tiki pinball machine and punching bag. Alvin bought a hot-tub, built a swimming pool and sauna. Also set up a chess table and don’t-wake-the-llama game. There was already a pond for fishing, so I got Alvin the Electrono-Ticket machine for §499. Eventually the Average entrance fee was around §45, but I lowered it to cheap §40 so that visitors won’t waste so much time browing the entrance.
Using these 4 money making schemes, Alvin managed to scrape enough money together for the §10 000 memory to show up. He still had to earn 10x that. So I turned my attention to real estate.
A while back I created a fourth vacation destination with only houses and empty lots. Plan was that whenever a sim rolled the Buy Vacation Home want, presto, cheap options available. No need to break the bank. So Alvin bought a few vacation home and sold them at Average rice to townies and even a few playable sims. 6 homes later, he achieved the §100 000 memory!
Challenge over! I moved him into a nice home called Oslo (forget where I got it from). When he moved out he was worth §127 834. Not too shabby.
